Rain
02.11.2017
We got up to rain this morning. It is welcome here because it has been very dry and dusty. Don went to the hospital and Debi and I had a leisurely morning. We decided to go out for lunch and Don had a short day so was able to join us. We went to the Blue Heron which is a hotel restaurant. It was all outdoors but they had tables under a canopy. Debi and I decided to order their meat lovers special for two. It came out on a wooden pallet loaded with food! It was so good but enough for at least three. It was so good we ate too much! The sun came out and warmed everything up.
We got home in time to have Naomi and Eunice Simonson over for a visit. Eunice’s husband, Dave, was a minister and they devoted their lives to ministering to the Africans. They raised five children here including Naomi. I met them in 1976 when we first came to Tanzania. Eunice is in her 80’s and is losing her sight and hearing but seemed in good health and spirits. We had a wonderful visit and they talked about having to their house soon.
Debi has been doing a daily walk and so we walked together for about 45 minutes. Everybody we passed wanted to say hello. Everybody walks everywhere here. We walked around a track a couple of times with a view of Mt. Meru as a backdrop. We saw a monkey too.
When we were talking to Naomi and Eunice, I heard a loud, raucous noise going by overhead. No one paid any attention until I said something. Debi said it was hornbills that fly in pairs. They are really loud. She said at first they were so excited to see them but now they are a nuisance.
In the evening we all sat around with our electronic devices. Debi started a stitchery project. The resident gecko ran across the wall. His job is to keep the mosquito population down. It was a wonderful day.
