A Travellerspoint blog

Sunday

We had a leisurely morning and planned to go to church at 10:30. I was getting ready when I heard Debi scream. I looked out the door and Debi pointed at a big bug on the floor. She saw it running across the floor in front of her. It was a cockroach! Ugly! She mashed it with one of Don’s shoes. Oh, and we lost power.
On the way to church, Debi got pulled over by a policeman. They don’t have cars so they stand by the side of the road and wave you over. The policeman said she made an illegal turn and she would have to pay a fine. Debi asked if she could get away with a warning but the policeman said no. But he didn’t have a ticket book so we would have to go to the police station to get it! So he got in the car with us and directed us to the police station. Debi was so mad! There was a table outside the station where Debi had to stand and pay while they filled out reams of paperwork. Then they had to take it inside to get a receipt! And then the policeman expected us to give him a ride back but Debi said no and we left. So we quietly went into church. What an experience! Later, Bernice said the cop wanted a bribe and would have let us go!
We came home and got ready for lunch. Debi put on the rice cooker and the power went out. They have a back up so that worked for the rice. We ate lunch and did some reading until time to go to Erik and Bernice’s for dinner. It’s been 15years since I’ve been to their home and they have made some changes. We sat on their patio which now has a cover and windows on one side as a wind break. Bernice had put some chicken and some bananas in foil in their outdoor oven so she took them out to serve with cheese and veggies. It was lovely there. And the power went out! Later Erik went to get a neighbor man who had had a stroke and included him although he couldn’t talk. Then Erik kneaded the pizza dough and rolled out small pizzas and we all put different toppings on and he cooked them for about 90 seconds. We had our fill of yummy pizza. It was a lovely evening. We will see them for thanksgiving.
