Back to Arusha

We had to leave for the airport at 8:00 am so we were up early packing and making sure we didn’t leave anything. The hotel prepared breakfast early for us so we got a good breakfast before taking off. We had arranged for Tosh to pick us up and he was right there waiting at 8:00am. We had to go through a security check with bag X-ray first. Then at the check in counter they weigh the bags and Don and Debi’s bags were overweight so Debi did some rearranging and that worked. Then we had to go through another security check and X-ray our belongings. Then to a bus that took us to the plane. We got on the plane and settled in. We had a stopover at Dar Es salaam but same plane on to Arusha. The flight was short and then everyone had to get out so they could refuel. So we walked into the airport and had to go through security again and then at our gate we went through security again! It was crazy! Finally back on the plane and arrived in Arusha. Someone was there to pick us up and we headed home. Debi had the driver stop on the way so she could buy some produce. It was nice to be back but I will never forget Zanzibar.
I was witness to what it is like to prepare salad greens for a salad. Debi went out to the garden and picked lettuce, basil, spinach, and chives. Then she took them to her outdoor sink and washed each leaf carefully. Right about then, the water stopped. Debi called the gardener who was outside and in a while he had it going again. Back to washing. The slugs love the lettuce. Then she brings them in and puts them in a wash of chlorine water for 30 minutes. Then she spins them to remove the chlorine and the puts them in a ziplock for the frig. Fortunately it’s enough to last a few days.
Wema’s mother came to meet me. Unfortunately she doesn’t speak much English so after a while she texted Orjantan to come over to translate. He is such a cute guy. And so smart! He picks up on everything. His mother is the same age as Kari but she has five kids and one grandchild! She looks older than her years.
Debi made a wonderful spaghetti dinner with salad and green beans. Since we didn’t get any lunch, we were ready for dinner! After dinner Don set up the projector and we watched a couple of movies.
It’s good to be back where it is cooler. I loved Zanzibar but it was really hot.
