My fabulous birthday!

What a day! We had breakfast at the rooftop restaurant and then decided to go back to the slave museum to read the history on big boards. None of us took the time the first time we went. Debi doesn’t do well with heat so we called for a taxi. My guide from the spice tour, Tosh, turned out to be our driver which was perfect since we arranged for him to drive us north in the afternoon. He took us to the museum and waited for us. It took about 40 minutes to read all the history that was put up on boards in three rooms. I’m so glad we did it because there was so much good information and pictures.
Then we headed north. It took about two hours but the roads were good right up to the last mile. Then, not so good! So we arrived at Baracka Beach Bungalows. I could see the water and it was so beautiful! We got all our luggage out (Don and Debi had a lot!) and went to check in. Apparently someone overbooked inspite of our having a reservation and paying ahead. So this nice gentleman representing the hotel apologized and said he would make it right but we had to stay in another hotel for tonight. So all the luggage went back in the van and to the other hotel. Our room was small with three single beds but there was a pool and a nice restaurant. We settled in and then went for a swim in the pool. The pool water was warm but it was lovely. Then we went to the restaurant and got cocktails and some calamari snacks. It was heavenly to sit in the open restaurant looking out at the beautiful water! I have to pinch myself to believe I’m here!
At 6pm we walked down the beach to where they were putting out the tables right on the beach. We sat down and a guy came by selling coconuts for the milk. He cut off the top and it was delicious. We had more cocktails and ordered our grilled lobster. We watched the sunset over the water. So beautiful! Debi had been telling everyone that it was my 70th birthday and so the staff brought me a bouquet of flowers for the table! Then Debi gave me a card and gift. I couldn’t believe she had a gift. This trip was an incredible gift! She bought a hand painted table cloth that we saw at a shop at the cultural heritage center. I decided that as much as I wanted it, I couldn’t really afford it. So I was bowled over! It will look fantastic in my dining room! Unbelievable! Then the lobster arrived! It was so good! Then the staff brought cake with candles all around it. Such a fun birthday! One I will never forget!
